What is Emu Oil?
Emu oil is natural product rich in essential fatty acids, vitamin E, antioxidants and other healing, anti-inflammatory and health promoting ingredients. The oil is a natural by-product obtained from the fat of the Emu when the Emu is processed for its healthy red meat.
Has the oil used in Emuphoria products been approved for purity or safety by a credible organisation?
The Emu oil used in the manufacturing of Emuphoria products is currently imported from the United States of America and Australia and meets the rules and regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and AQIS.
How long has Emu Oil been on the market for?
The Australian Aborigines long believed in the healing powers of Emu oil and have been using it for thousands of years to treat burns, wounds, arthritis, muscle pains and as a skin moisturiser.
Emu farming in South Africa began in 1994 with the importation of two lots of birds from Europe. Since that time, the population of these ratites has grown to about 3000.
South Africa is still in the in the breeding phase or live market phase where most commercial Emu farmers make their money from selling live birds. The Emu oil used in Emuphoria products is currently imported from the United States of America and Australia and meets the rules and regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and AQIS.
The SA Emu Association was formed in 2002 and currently has 30 members – all commercial Emu farmers.

What are some of the health benefits of the products?

Most often the body’s levels of antioxidants, fatty acids and other active ingredients in Emu oil are very low. What are Omega 3 fatty acids and why should I take it as a supplement?Omega 3 fatty acids contribute to increasing the concentration of good cholesterol while decreasing the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood. As such Omega 3 fatty acids contribute to a healthy heart.
What is Omega 6 and why should I take it as a supplement?
Omega 6 or Linoleic is an essential fatty acid, which means the body cannot produce it and it must therefore be obtained as part of the diet. Linoleic acid contributes to the production of prostagladins, substances found in every cell and essential to the body’s overall health maintenance. Linoleic acid also eases muscle aches and joint pains.
What is Omega 7 and why should I take it as a supplement?
C16:1 Palmitoleic acid: Palmitoleic Acid is a monounsaturated oil and is a highly effective antioxidant. It is found in the sebum particularly in youth, but diminishes with the aging process. The fatty acid is also a component of skin fat. It has highly emollient qualities and slight sunscreen properties.
What is Omega 9 and why should I take it as a supplement?
Omega 9 fatty acids or oleic acid helps to transport the bio-active components within the oil through the skin. Oleic acid also aids in lowering blood cholesterol levels.
What are antioxidants and what purpose do they serve?
An antioxidant is a chemical compound that prevents chemical damage to cellular components.
Is Emu oil a “tissue oil”?
Emu oil is high in Vitamin E and is therefore a tissue oil, but with a lot of extra benefits.
Are Emu oil capsules / HG oil better than Flaxseed oil for instance?
There are many excellent sources from which the diet can be supplemented with essential fatty acids. Flaxseed oil is a good source of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. However, flaxseed oil does not contain the same level of anti-inflammatory components found in Emu oil. Various scientific studies have shown that essential fatty acids obtained from Emu or fish are significantly better than plant derived oils in the treatment of inflammation and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD). The most probable reason for this is probably that these oils have the correct balance of compounds.
Why can we use Emu oil on burn wounds when the application of oil or fat is not normally recommended as part of the treatment?
The main contributing factor to Emu oil’s effectiveness in treating burn wounds is its anti-inflammatory characteristics which also contribute to reduction of scar tissue in burn wounds.
Emu oil also aids healing in burn wounds, by providing adequate moisturise and lubrication.
Why is Emu oil so effective in combating lifestyle ailments?

The oil solidifies in winter. What should you do to return it to its liquid state?
It is natural for the oil to solidify in cold conditions. It is recommended that you gently warm the oil in your hand (using body temperature) to its liquid state.
